Birgitta's work right now revolves around how we see ourselves in relation to others. She asks herself  questions such as; How are we allowed to behave? What are we communicating when we do not do anything? What do we express when we are expressionless? How are different relationships manifested? Her works represent a state of mind that is distorted due to discomfort or discontent. It is largely influenced by how she perceives herself as a person, her own dysphoria, and she projects this distorted mindset onto the figures in the paintings.

To Birgitta the canvas becomes  a theater stage, where she is both the actor, set dresser and a director. Her work often takes the form of  auto- portraiture which she  might treat similarly to how one would create still- life compositions. This often results in images with a disturbing or elusive  atmosphere, a feeling which the spectator might find hard to grasp. This approach allows Birgitta to observe herself through a process of making a work of art, where she, in the end, is both the creator and the observer.
